I do wonder as I’m pulling out streamers of cleavers ( Cleavers, Clivers, Goosegrass, Stickywilly, Stickywillow, Stickyjack, Stickyleaf, Catchweed, Robin-run-the-hedge, Coachweed, Bedstraw) which break off as I pull – would I do better to be patient, let it fill out and toughen up – and then I might be able to pull it out by the root? As it is I’m simply pulling little bits off.
This is one weed I don’t like, it makes things look messy.
But pulling it out with no breaking off is a sort of satisfaction. Wait or what?
My hens love to eat it and I am told it makes a very good restorative tisane too. The Paeony is lovely. Which is it?
Do the hens pull it up for you or do you have to help them to it? Critical issue, that…Though I don’t know how they’d reach it, the way it drapes itself over plants three and four feet high..

No hens and gardens don’t mix. The hens don’t discriminate and will eat everything! I pull it out and feed it to them.
I thought as much. If hens were the solution I’d have heard about their wunder powers by now…!
