North Garden – Orchard Border

Campanula lactiflora and Crocosmia 'Solfatare' at Veddw. Copyright Charles Hawes

This border borders the orchard. It has a yellow and blue scheme, because I love being smacked in the face by that dramatic contrast, however much my friend Sue tells me it’s banal and boring. It does this best in late summer with Campanula lactiflora and Crocosmia ‘Solfatare’. I cut the campanula down in late May, as it starts to flower, so that it then flowers in August at half its usual height – and – pow! In the picture here you can’t see much of the crocosmia, sadly.
