South Garden – Cornfield Garden

This is a small garden which originally had cornfield weeds and corn grown in small, box edged formal gardens between brick paths.

It’s remarkably hard to grow weeds. It worked once and looked amazing. Then – fail and fail. So I gave up and grew grasses –  Calamagrostis x acutiflora ‘Karl Foerster’ replacing the wild flowers. That looked amazing when they flowered, but every summer there would be a deluge and the flowers were broken and the whole thing became a mess.

And then there was box blight…

So we began again, for the third (lucky?) time.

And it became known as the Disaster Zone. Perennials take time to establish….. But it’s arriving! This year I loved it. (Next year??)

You’ll find mention of the plants at Candide Gardening
